Not a huge mailbag this week but we did have a few questions regarding the Winter Classic.
What do you think about the Winter Classic uniforms? I've read that you hated them and liked them the next post. What are your official feelings? Tony D, Saugus, MA.
Well, the fact that you brought up my hate it/love it posts, it means you've been reading Something's Bruin for awhile and for that, I thank you. Yes, I did post that I hated the Winter Classic jersey and then the next post said I liked them. Well, after seeing the jersey everywhere from on TV to at the Garden, I have to say that I like them BUT I still dislike the Bruins logo. I feel the Bruins should have used a different style logo, hell a more traditional style uniform. What I wished the Bruins would've done is something from the 1920s or 1930s.

These are the uniforms that the Bruins wore when they won their first ever Stanley Cup. I feel that something like this would've made a much better Winter Classic jersey to get the old time hockey feel. Again, sounds like sour grapes, but what the hell. I do like the Winter Classic jersey design and I like the yellow based jersey that doesn't have a cartoon character on the front. So to answer your question, yes I like the Winter Classic jersey for the Bruins but I feel that it could be better. To expand on that, if it ever became the third jersey, you wouldn't hear me complain.
What are your feelings on the Winter Classic as a whole? Do you like the idea of two Winter Classic games next year?
Annie C. Beverly, MA
Let's start with the second question first. For those of you who have been living under a rock, the NHL is thinking about having two Winter Classic games next season. Gary Bettman wants to have a second game in Canada, though a date of the game (I don't think it would be on New Year's Day for lighting reasons) is unclear.
To be fair, I hate the idea of holding two Winter Classic games in the season. I don't see why the Winter Classic has to be an "American only" event when the Heritage Classic in 2003 was between the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens. If you hold two Winter Classics, when does the mystique of the event become watered down? Truth be told, I look forward to this event all season. It ranks right up there with opening night and Game 1 of the playoffs (should the Bruins make the playoffs).
Every Winter Classic game has been a good one. Buffalo and Pittsburgh had a fantastic event, as did Detroit and Chicago and I believe in my heart of hearts that the Bruins and Flyers will entertain us. You can put any two teams outside and the game will be entertaining. Once you begin to have multiple events in the same year, it becomes stale and watered down.
If the NHL was to hold two Winter Classic events in January or January/February, the event will never hold the allure that it does with one.
