I've been a Bruins fan as long as I can remember.
I own two Bruins jerseys, one is a personalized custom jersey and the other is a 1972 Phil Esposito jersey.

Yes, I haven't forgot about the Mailbag Monday! Luckily we didn't have many (any) e-mails during the Olympic break, but we have a couple that I'll answer.
What do you think about the Bruins job at the NHL trade deadline? - Gary V, Flint, MI
Honestly Gary, I think Chiarelli did a horrible job. I know I'm beating a dead horse now, but Chiarelli didn't address the biggest need on this team; getting a goal scoring winger for Marc Savard. Now people were immediately dismissing that the Bruins wouldn't make the team a Stanley Cup finalist, but to that I come back with "it would make them a playoff team". The Bruins are clinging to the 8th place spot with the Rangers breathing down their necks (67 points for NYR, 69 for the Bruins). I don't want to go on a diatribe about this because I am to sore from dancing and to tired from drinking this weekend. For my thoughts (and the thoughts of other talented Bruins bloggers) check out NESN.com's Bruins' round table discussion.
What are your feelings on Matt Cooke and his hit on Savard yesterday? - Mike C, Danvers, MA
I'll be honest with you Mike, I didn't see it live. I tried to watch the Bruins yesterday, but had to many things to do with my wedding reception being the previous night. With that said, I woke up this morning and had a Facebook message with a YouTube link attached. I watched the video and was absolutely disgusted at what I saw.
(Please be advised that reading beyond this point will mean an increased sense of homerism)
Cooke's elbow to the head of Marc Savard was unwarranted and uncalled for. Unfortunately we've seen these kind of things from Cooke before when he was suspended for two games after a hit to New York Rangers' forward Artem Anisimov on November 30, 2009 and on January 28, 2009 when he was suspended for a dirty hit on Carolina Hurricanes' forward Scott Walker.
Matt Cooke should be suspended because this was more of a "wrong place, wrong time" hit like our friends at The Pens Blog thinks. What happened was more than just Cooke running into a vulnerable Savard (considering Savard JUST shot the puck), it looked as if Cooke found a calculated time to strike down Boston's best player.
Lets go to the video tape!
At 1:15, it is clear to see Cooke either throw his elbow or stick his elbow out to catch Savard's head. Either way, Cooke should be suspended for a couple games. The Penguins will be in town on March 18, 2010 and it should be very interesting!

Not a huge mailbag this week but we did have a few questions regarding the Winter Classic.
What do you think about the Winter Classic uniforms? I've read that you hated them and liked them the next post. What are your official feelings? Tony D, Saugus, MA.
Well, the fact that you brought up my hate it/love it posts, it means you've been reading Something's Bruin for awhile and for that, I thank you. Yes, I did post that I hated the Winter Classic jersey and then the next post said I liked them. Well, after seeing the jersey everywhere from on TV to at the Garden, I have to say that I like them BUT I still dislike the Bruins logo. I feel the Bruins should have used a different style logo, hell a more traditional style uniform. What I wished the Bruins would've done is something from the 1920s or 1930s.

These are the uniforms that the Bruins wore when they won their first ever Stanley Cup. I feel that something like this would've made a much better Winter Classic jersey to get the old time hockey feel. Again, sounds like sour grapes, but what the hell. I do like the Winter Classic jersey design and I like the yellow based jersey that doesn't have a cartoon character on the front. So to answer your question, yes I like the Winter Classic jersey for the Bruins but I feel that it could be better. To expand on that, if it ever became the third jersey, you wouldn't hear me complain.
What are your feelings on the Winter Classic as a whole? Do you like the idea of two Winter Classic games next year?
Annie C. Beverly, MA
Let's start with the second question first. For those of you who have been living under a rock, the NHL is thinking about having two Winter Classic games next season. Gary Bettman wants to have a second game in Canada, though a date of the game (I don't think it would be on New Year's Day for lighting reasons) is unclear.
To be fair, I hate the idea of holding two Winter Classic games in the season. I don't see why the Winter Classic has to be an "American only" event when the Heritage Classic in 2003 was between the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens. If you hold two Winter Classics, when does the mystique of the event become watered down? Truth be told, I look forward to this event all season. It ranks right up there with opening night and Game 1 of the playoffs (should the Bruins make the playoffs).
Every Winter Classic game has been a good one. Buffalo and Pittsburgh had a fantastic event, as did Detroit and Chicago and I believe in my heart of hearts that the Bruins and Flyers will entertain us. You can put any two teams outside and the game will be entertaining. Once you begin to have multiple events in the same year, it becomes stale and watered down.
If the NHL was to hold two Winter Classic events in January or January/February, the event will never hold the allure that it does with one.

Welcome to another Mailbag edition. We got some excellent questions over the week. The first comes to us by RyanFields from TBN.
I have a non-Bruin technical hockey question. I can't find this answer anywhere. What is the maximum curve allowed on a player stick and maximum blade dimensions in the NHL? And if you can find this information for goalie stick also it would be great! - RyanFields, TBN
In the NHL today, the legal limit is 3/4 of an inch. Before the 2006-2007 season, the limit of the curve on a stick was half an inch.
What do you think of the Johnny Boychuk hit on Stajan on Saturday? Was it dirty? A lot of people are comparing it to the Randy Jones hit on Patrice Bergeron. What do you think? Adam M., Saugus MA
For those who did not watch the Bruins game Saturday night, here is what Adam is talking about:
I've watched this video at least 10 times since I got this question so I could answer it honestly and have some sort of input. For those who are comparing this hit to the Randy Jones hit on Bergeron, STOP. The two of them are completely different. Boychuk's hit on Stajan was in OPEN ICE and from the looks of it, Stajan had his head down.
Should Boychuk get fined for leaving his feet? Sure because if it was the other way around, I'd be pissed off to. Was it a dirty hit? I don't think so. Stajan was skating in open ice, not up along the boards, and didn't see Boychuk until it was to late.
For those crying that Boychuk's hit was dirty, watch the video again and stop being a homer.
What was your favorite game at the Boston Garden? Chris C., Denver, CO
Are you ready to be shocked? I've never been to a Bruins game at the Boston Garden. I KNOW! Unfortunately, the first Bruins game I attended happened in 1995, when the Fleetcenter opened. It was in January and I believe the Bruins played San Jose. When I was a youngster, my friend's father had Celtics season tickets so I saw plenty of Celtics games at the Garden. So my favorite game at the Boston Garden was a Celtics game.
Please don't hate me, hate my parents.
Well, that is the mailbag for this week! Continue to send your questions to

Welcome to our first ever Mailbag Mondays! We received 3 e-mails this week for our inaugural mailbag. Let's get to the e-mails!
Hey guys. Who do you think is the most important free agent after the 2011 season, Zdeno Chara or Patrice Bergeron? - Randy, Tewksbury, MA
I think Patrice Bergeron is the more important free agent out of the two. I know that Zdeno is really important to the defense, but you have some guys like Mark Stuart and Johnny Boychuk (should he still be in Boston) who will mature and more than likely grow into a #1 defenseman. Patrice Bergeron is only 24 and even though he's been in the NHL for a few years, still has years to mature as a hockey player. He can score and he can play defense. He's the more important guy.
Are you going to the Winter Classic in Boston? - Chris W, Vancouver, CA
I wish. My brother's tickets came in on Friday and I debated taking them, but then I'd catch an ass whooping. Unfortunately I'm getting married in February, so I have no money to buy Winter Classic tickets.
Where do you see the Bruins at the end of the season? - R.J. O, Salem, MA
The Bruins will end up in the top 5 of the Eastern Conference, more than likely top 3. I still believe the Bruins are the best team in the Northeast Division, especially when healthy. A healthy Marc Savard has ignited the offense and they have a soft schedule in February that should help them win the division.
Well those are the e-mails! Hopefully we will get more for next week. |

Starting next week, we will have a weekly segment on Monday called "Mail Bag Mondays". I know, the name is pretty generic but cut me some slack. It's 9:21am on a Monday morning and I was up playing NBA 2K10 until 1am last night.
The reason I started Mail Bag Mondays is to build relationships with my readers. Let's be honest, I'm just a guy who types words and you're just people who read them, but we should change that.
The premise of Mail Bag Mondays is pretty simple. You can e-mail
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
via this link, the Contact menu at the top navigation bar or via our Twitter account. You can e-mail us with any questions regarding the Bruins, hockey, movies...really anything. We'll try to answer as many as we can every Monday. Be sure to include your first name and location.
Again, I want to build a relationship with my readers because it will make this whole thing much more enjoyable.
The first Mail Bag Monday will be December 14, 2009.
