Shawn Thornton was out in full force last night.
Elton John said it best and the Boston Bruins followed suit: Saturday night IS alright for fighting. The fists were flying and the offense was ignited after a long stretch of half-assed (looking, at least) hockey. The Bruins brought "Big" and "Bad" back to the nickname Big Bad Bruins with a 4-2 domination of the Buffalo Sabres.
Mark Recchi got the offense, and the power play, off on the right foot scoring 3:17 seconds into the game and ultimately sealed the fate of the Sabres. Zdeno Chara, also on the power play, scored his first goal of the season which ended the 1st period at 2-0. Tuukka Rask was also good in net for the Bruins, stopping 28 of the 30 shots he faced. Byron Bitz and Marco Sturm would also add goals in the 2nd period to put this one away.
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
The Good:
Bruins Specialty Teams. The Bruins penalty kill was sensational last night as they killed 7 penalties and stiffled the Buffalo power play the entire night. The power play was equally as good as Boston went 2 for 3 with the man advantage and rose their overall power play success to 13.6% good for 26th in the NHL.
Shawn Thornton. Though the Bruins may live and die with Patrice Bergeron, they will rise to the top with the energy (and fists) of Shawn Thornton. Thornton will never be the guy who skates down the ice, makes a flashy move (outside of the Shawn Thronton Spin-o-rama) and puts the puck top shelf, but he will grab a guy by his sweater, drop his gloves and introduce said guy to his fists. Thornton brings the energy to the team and the crowd, and he certainly brought it last night. Shawn, do you have anything to say on the matter?

Tuukka Rask. Look, it's Tuukka time people. Rask had another great game as he made 28 saves on 30 shots. The last time he played, he had a shutout against Edmonton. Tuukka will be here for another 2 seasons and will be the man in Boston, but I say get him ready now. The Bad, The Ugly: Not much I can say here. There wasn't anything particularly Bad nor Ugly in last night's game. Usually I try to pick out a player (DENNIS WIDEMAN) or something out there, but I can't. Last night, the Bruins played a solid hockey game.
Win of the Night:
I love watching Steve Montador get his ass beat in!
Stat of the Night:
9 players had points for the Boston Bruins . This was by far the largest number of players in the point column since the Bruins played the Carolina Hurricanes where 7 players did so.
