Bergeron is going to be the life blood of the Bruins, he doesn't have a choice
Until Marc Savard, David Krejci and Milan Lucic get back from whatever ails them, the Boston Bruins will live and die with the play of Patrice Bergeron.
A year ago, that statement would've never been uttered from the lips of a Bruins fan, but that shows you the type of state that the Boston Bruins are in. Now, please don't see my previous statement as a slight against Patrice Bergeron, because it isn't. Before his concussion during the 2007-2008 season, Bergeron (Bergy as he is also known as) was going to be THE player in Boston with Joe Thornton sunning it up on the west coast.
Drafted by the Bruins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft (#45 overall), Bergeron amassed 182 points in 229 games between the beginning of the 2003-2004 season to the end of the 2006-2007 season (minus the 2004-2005 season where he played 61 games in Providence). Since that concussion, Patrice has not played to the level that Bruins fans were becoming accustomed to...until now.
Many though Patrice Bergeron would never see the ice again
This season, amidst injuries to key players and a slow start, Bergeron has been (virtually) the only consistent player wearing the black and gold. Through 15 games, Bergeron is close to eclipsing last season's total of 8 goals (he has 5 right now) and has 9 points.
It's not only the offense that will live and die with the play of Bergy, it's the defense as well. Bergeron is the best two-way forward on the Bruins team and has made it known this year with some solid defensive play.
Bergeron will never be a cornerstone of a franchise, but until the likes of Krejci, Lucic and Savard are able to put on the skates again, he will have to be the man that we all thought he could, and would, be.
