THIS TIME, IT'S MORE THAN JUST HOCKEY!

Before I get into the preview of the game, I want to let everyone know about the little wager I have going on with Drew at Nightmare on Helm Street. Yesterday we were e-mailing one another back and forth and decided on a wager based on the game's outcome.

If Boston pulled out the win, I would do some smack-talk on his blog. You know the deal, gloating, ribbing, basically spewing out victorious speeches that would make a professional speech writer blush. If the Red Wings, then he will do the same here. Anything goes my friends, anything goes.

Check out Drew's Pointless Preview for the upcoming game.

Now...PREVIEW TIME!

Matt Hunwick and the Bruins will look for a win tonight

After a tough 1-0 loss to the New York Rangers, the Boston Bruins (6-6-1) continue their short road trip with a stop in Detroit to face a surprisingly bad Red Wings (5-4-1) team. Maybe bad is the wrong term when describing the Wings, but I can tell you that they are not playing as well as they should be.

Last season these two teams met to the tune of a 4-1 win for Boston in Boston. Both David Krejci and Blake Wheeler had a goal and an assist in the win.

Bruins 3 Keys To Winning

1. Lengthy puck control
The Red Wings may not be having the start of the season that they're used to, but they still have guys like Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. The Detroit forwards, Zetterburg and Datsyuk especially, are the type of forwards that will give defenseman Zdeno Chara fits because they have the ability to skate around him and swivel him into the ice. For the Bruins to minimize the effectiveness of these forwards, they are going to have to eat up minutes in the Red Wings' offensive zone.

2. Old Timmy being Timmy of old
On Sunday, 11.1.2009, Tim Thomas had a pretty good game in a loss to the New York Rangers. Thomas turned away 22 of the 23 shots he faced in New York and 29 of the 31 he saw Thursday (10.29.2009) against New Jersey. Thomas has surely gotten off to a slow start, but lately he is picking up the pace and is playing.

3. Power play needs some power
There isn't much to say about the power play. It sucks. I broke it down yesterday and you can check it out here if you haven't already.
